I recently returned from the most astounding photographic journey through Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.
For my initial two weeks in Cambodia, I traveled to Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Battambang with humanitarian photojournalists: Karl Grobl, Gavin Gough, Marco Ryan and Matt Brandon. While there, I collaborated on a multimedia piece with photographer Catherine Wisner about the life of two Cambodian women entitled, “Water Lily Soup”. These women so deeply impressed us with their fortitude and strength of character, though they had only minor possessions and little if no money. The story is extremely sad, but on the positive side, we left them with two bicycles and food for the month. Transportation is key, as they live far away from the nearest source of food and trade. It was truly heart wrenching when we said goodbye, as not only had they touched our lives so deeply, but we were gratefully able to give back a little, ourselves.
